#23 - what I learned - THE END

Well, I think I learned a lot, but I wish I would have more time to explore everything in more detailed way. I hope I will be back one day to finish what didn't work for me at the first try..
I should say that in spite of all the pressure and lack of time, I really liked learning new things. Thank you for teaching!!!

#22 -ebooks etc.

I search a new web site on ebooks on our library home page. It seems like it is much easier now to figure out what collection has what and belong to which Institution -SJPL or/and SJSU.

david copperfield flying

I finally figured out how to do it, I guess.

#21 PODCASTS -week 9

I explored the links and RSS fed my bloglines account for podcasting in Russian. I think it is cool, except there is a trouble sometimes to listen to podcasts, even in my office computer. I tried to replay some of the "23 Things Exercises" podcasts and none of them seems still work?

YOUTUBE experience

I am supposed to post a link to YouTube video I like. The fact is I could not understand how to do it exactly. I first try is just posting a link:
FlyingVideo
Seems like it works! But it is not what I am supposed to do. I have to have a frame of the video on my page. So I will try to discover how to do it.
OK, I was not sure I needed to create an account to add video to blog, but I did. Then I tried to register my blog in YouTube, but I could not get an access to it. I am not sure what is wrong. So "Embeddable Player cut and paste code" still does not make sense to me, sorry.

LibraryThing

I created an account with library thing. I added 7 entries to my book catalog. The link to it is here:
MyFewBooksCatalog
Hopefully the link will work.
I found it is very useful and not hard to use. When you need you own catalog, what could be better!
I am thinking I could use this tool to create my home library catalog.

#18 -week 8

Well below you see my attempt (successful) to publish a doc directly from ZOHO. It worked! Also I sent the same paragraph to my e-mail and it worked too. It was very easy and fast. Thank you for my new discovery!

Posted directly from ZOHO

Well. I have to write something about something. It should be easy, just I have to find an interesting topic to write about. I am wondering why ZOHO is called this way? Other than that, it seems like a very simply "no questions" tool to use. I would say it is easier to find lots of features on it than when using Microsoft Word.

#17 -week 7

I added my blog's http to Favorite blogs and posted my posting to Favorite books category.

WiKis -week 7

Searched, read, learned from some WiKis suggested.
Went to our Reference department wiki: https://klrefwiki.pbwiki.com.
It was nice to actually see your coworkers efforts to go along with new technologies and learn something. I discovered not everybody can actually edit this WiKi. You should log in with the password. Nice protection!

WEEK 6 -#15 - Future of Libraries

I looked through 5 perspectives. This is my favorite part of "to more powerful ways to cooperate":
"Collect user intelligence Another key lesson that O’Reilly emphasizes is the notion that “users add value.” For OCLC and its member libraries, this means expanding our definition of “collective intelligence” beyond the library professional to faculty, researchers, library patrons and others by building into our systems services that encourage these users contribute their expertise to the cooperative."
I think cooperative intelligence of people who work for the library and library users is the great idea and definitely one of the Libraries of the Future major trends!

#14 - Technorati favorites

Well, I am speeding up and trying to catch the main meaning mostly. I am aware now that Technorati is only blog related engine and you can search not all the web pages using it.
I tried to search Blog posts, Blog directories and Tags for "Library2.0". I got different results - 550, 130 and 2,104 respectively postings.
Tagging is a great way of combining topics in one category! Even I do not see that it is very different form linking everything by subject/topic/key words. To me tagging is just new way of wording the same action.
I like the Favorites category on Technorate the best. I really enjoyed viewing what movies are the most popular at present time. Very useful and quick way to be updated on this subject!

#13 -DELICIOUS!

Unfortunately not enough time for good research exploration. I did create my own delicious account and got an idea how to tag different websites. I still feel not too confident in doing this - need lots of practice.
I liked the gorgeous SJLibraries delicious account and found many interesting tags there. I put RSS link to my bloglines list for this site, so I can get there quick any time.
I even added to bloglines list my weak delicious account, but I really need to work on organizing it.

ROLLYO!

I created an account in Rollyo and chose subject TRAVEL.

#11 - Web 2.0 Award list

Well, I love to travel, so I chose category TRAVEL. I was a little confused with sites other than www.kayak.com, because they all do something different than just helping you with cheap tickets etc. I liked that kayak.com searches lots of different sites and you can choose where to go to actually purchase your airline tickets.

Week 5 -IMAGE generators

Well, I had tried to have fun with Generator Blog and choose Collage Generator. Here is my edited image from Flicr:

Second site Flickr Toys helped me with framing the Tiger image:

This was the result of my further Image generators' exploration

#9-week 4

Explored Feedster, Topix.net, Syndic.8.com and Technocraty. Tried to search for "technology and libraries" news feeds. Got very disappointed with all the Search tools links except the Syndic8.com, where I found an interesting blog site: Libraries and Technologies. I added it to my Blogroll list.

Week 4 finally-RSS - #8 thing

I am still waiting to confirm my bloglines account, so could not do much. I did learn theoretically something, but could not try practically my new knowledge yet. Yes, we do live in 21st century and technology is speeding up too quick ... It is hard to catch up!
RSS - I wish I would use this idea in everyday life everywhere. My favorite food, clothes, best movies, new ballet performances. I wish to get this info in my mail box - virtual or real. It saves time!!! It helps to stretch our lives. I really like this!
Ok, finally I found the message from bloglines in my junk folder and confirmed the account. I did add several links to my newsfeeder. My public Bloglines URL is :
http://www.bloglines.com/public/foxtiger
I am almost ready to proceed with next assignment.
